The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that beginning on June 1, 2019 they will begin charging a fee for those exporters who opt to apply for an electronic FSIS export certificate, using their Public Health Information System (PHIS).
Currently, FSIS is only using their PHIS export component for a limited number of countries, but intends to expand implementation by adding countries incrementally.
The electronic export application and certification process provides service options to U.S. exporters, enabling them to electronically submit, track, and manage their export applications. To cover the costs of providing this service, the final rule established a formula-based fee for electronic export applications.
The fee is based on labor costs plus IT costs, divided by the number of export applications. The 2019 Electronic Export Application Fee will be $4.01.
