On September 3rd, Secretariat of Economy, published in the Federal Official Gazette, the Decree by which the TIGIE is modified with respect to Chapter 87, to encourage national production of electric motor vehicles, allow free competition and access to new clean technologies in the field of transportation and thereby favor compliance with Mexico’s commitments at the international level in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
By virtue of the foregoing, it is considered necessary to create two tariff fractions to identify new electric motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more people and used light electric motor vehicles, respectively, as well as modify the description of three tariff fractions and exempt temporarily the import tariff of three tariff items relating to new electric motor vehicles for the transport of ten or more people, new light electric motor vehicles and new electric motor vehicles for the transport of goods.
This Decree will enter into force on September 4th, 2020.
The validity that establishes the exempt rate for electric cars will last until September 30, 2024.
