The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on imports of wooden handles for brushes, brooms or mops. These handles are classified under tariff 4417.00.90 of the Customs Tariff, dutiable at 6% under the Most-Favoured Nation (MFN) Tariff and duty free under General Preferentail Tariff (GPT).
Also, being reviewed is the removal of customs duties on imports of embossed aluminum cans for use in the packaging of beverages. These embossed aluminum cans are classified under tariff 7612.90.90 of the Customs Tariff dutiable at 6.5% under MFN and 5.5% under GPT.
The wooden handles and the embossed aluminum cans are not available from Canadian production and that tariff relief would enhance its competiveness in the domestic market.
The applicant claims that these wooden handles are not available from Canadian Productions and that tariff relief would enhance its competitiveness in the domestic and export markets.
