June 22, 2020 – Transport Canada’s Registrar of Imported Vehicles (RIV) announced that effective August 1, 2020, the RIV Vehicle import fee will be increased to $325 and Parts fee will be $100. View the table by Provinces with applicable taxes here.
The import fee covers a series of services that are involved in the import process from pre-purchase compliance verification to final electronic notification to all licensing jurisdictions across Canada.
Current fees for registering a U.S. imported vehicle in the RIV program are:
- Vehicles entering the RIV program with a Vehicle Import Form – Form 1
$310.00 + GST and QST for vehicles entering through a border crossing in Quebec
$310.00 + GST/HST for vehicles entering through a border crossing in any other province
Fee increasing from $310.00 to $325.00 on August 1, 2020 - Vehicles entering the RIV program with a Vehicle Imported for Parts Form – Form 3 (parts-only vehicles)
$95.00 + GST and QST for vehicles entering through a border crossing in Quebec
$95.00 + GST/HST for vehicles entering through a border crossing in any other province
Fee increasing from $95.00 to $100.00 on August 1, 2020
