Changes to the Animal Products and By-Products Import Policy Framework

Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) advises that starting June 17, 2020, several chapters from the Terrestrial animal products and by-products Import policy framework come into effect. Some of the old policies will be replaced by the new chapters will also be removed from the CFIA website. This change is not expected to impact import conditions or international trade. The following chapters of the Terrestrial Animal Products and By-products Import Policy Framework will be implemented and become active:

The implementation of these chapters will not have an impact on existing import conditions or international trade.

The following policies will simultaneously be removed from the CFIA website as they will be replaced by the new chapters above:

  • Animal Products/By-Products to be used as Medicinal or Natural Health Products
  • Bee Products
  • Fertilizers and Manure
  • Highly Processed Products
  • Import Policy for Pet Food and Treats Containing Animal Products and By-Products
