The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has published guidance and information on how Canadian food businesses can support the United States importers to meet the United States Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) rules.
New guidance material is posted in the Food Export Library web pages under the United States concerning US FSVP. Information can be found through the links within the United States section of the food export library. Canada and the U.S. have a Food Safety Systems Recognition Arrangement (FSSRA).
The FSVP provides modified requirements to U.S. importers when they import food that is covered under the FSSRA from Canadian manufacturers that are in good regulatory standing with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Canadian food manufacturers who process food for export will require a licence under the proposed Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR).
