The head of the Tax Administration Service (SAT), Raquel Buenrostro, begins 2021 with several challenges. On the one hand, it will continue to focus the SAT batteries on the supervision of the 12,000 large taxpayers after the success they had with 14 of the 15 companies that were under scrutiny, of which half have already paid outstanding debts and abandoned their litigation, there is only one that continues through the courts and the rest is in the process of payment with agreements in monthly payments.
In a radio interview, Buenrostro explained that in 2020 they dedicated themselves to collecting the debts that were identified, but the cabinet investigation also began on sectors that had not been fiscally supervised for more than a decade and we are talking about the automotive, pharmaceutical industry , mining, the financial sector and not only private banks, but also development banks and non-bank financial intermediaries, such as Sofoles and Sofomes, and large commercial chains.
Buenrostro trusts in a significant increase in collection with this cabinet investigation and ensures that no sector can be said to be surprised, because last year he met with leaders of the industrial, commercial and financial chambers to inform them about the supervision strategy that starts this year.
In addition to the 200 billion pesos obtained by the SAT with the collection of large taxpayers in 2020, Buenrostro explained that it improved the general perception and the program that it calls fiscal presence, which consisted in sending notices to taxpayers, to whom electronically – that is, without an audit— the SAT detected discrepancies between income and expenses and more than 10 million taxpayers who declared in zeros began to pay taxes and 110 billion pesos were collected.
FISCAL STIMULES IN THE SOUTHEAST
Additionally, in 2021 the fight against smuggling will be strengthened, the start of the free zone in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, and the fiscal stimuli in the southern border region, which came into effect on January 1, together with the renewal of the program in the strip. northern border.
Buenrostro explained that the fiscal stimulus program was extended to the south, with lower VAT and ISR rates given the success registered in the north, where profits in 2020 exceeded 150 thousand million pesos, above what was forecast. This week the electronic application for these incentives was launched, which are available only to local companies that are active and without tax debts.
