An in-depth audit of how the auto and steel industries – which together represent 6 percent of the value of the Mexican economy – pay their taxes is coming. The measure reveals Raquel Buenrostro, head of the Tax Administration Service (SAT), is part of control actions that will not end there. There are also reviews of five of the largest private foundations, linked to the great fortunes of the country.
SAT’s oversight work is not focused on the private sector. In an interview with La Jornada, Raquel Buenrostro reveals that the body that she has led since last January is going to audit PETROLEOS MEXICANOS (PEMEX) and the group of public banks that make up the development bank.
At the head of the SAT since last January, Raquel Buenrostro, a mathematician from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, talks about another pair of objectives that the organization will face: the fight from its origin of the informal economy – where little more than half of Mexicans– and customs, the most complex point of corruption in the SAT, whose combat is a matter of national security.
