The Minister of International Trade recently announced the positive conclusion of the exploratory discussions on a comprehensive free trade agreement with Mercosur trade bloc, which consists of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Canada and the Mercosur member states Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay have agreed on the strong potential to develop a more ambitious trade relationship by enhancing trade and investment flows through a comprehensive free trade agreement.
On March 8, 2018 a joint statement was issued by the ministers to launch negotiations towards a comprehensive free trade agreement between the Mercosur member states and Canada.
Mercosur and Canada will seek to negotiate issues such as market access for goods and services, labour, the environment, trade and gender, micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises, among others. Integrating these elements will reinforce a collective commitment to lasting economic growth and development for all people.
