In the midst of all the uncertainty, there’s opportunity.
While there might be uncertainty amongst some, many will agree 2017 will ultimately go down in history as an exciting year for those involved in trade. It will be interesting to see how governments in various countries protect their own economies while they navigate their way through their trading partners’ policies and strategies.
The one sure thing in 2017 is we can expect change.
President Trump has stated he wants to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with Canada and Mexico. While we watch this unfold, other regions are also looking to implement new legislation. There’s the ratification of the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA), and the fast paced negotiations of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a proposed agreement with the ten member states from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China, Japan, Korea, India, Australia, and New Zealand.
There’s certainly a lot to watch out for in 2017.
Our latest edition of the Livingston Global Perspectives provides insight to other trade initiatives, such as the “keeping your trade data confidential” and the recent “World Customs Organization (WCO) 2017 Customs Tarff changes”.
